and one more thing!

i LOVE this illustration of the Chrysler Building by James Gulliver Hancock, one of my absolute favorite artists!
incredible, right??
follow his blog to see more of his "Buildings of New York"!

rock you like a hurricane

i hate hurricanes.

we have been rocked by Hurricane Irene,
and i am not ok with it.
we have no power at my house, and therefore no hot water, and likely won't have it until Thursday of this week.
thankfully, i go back to school on Tuesday, but my poor parents will have to live by candle and flashlight!
which sounds fun in theory, but when you have to take ice showers and can't cook anything, the romance of it all sort of dwindles away.
the only fun part to come out of this situation is that i get to sleep over at my grandparent's house until i leave :) they are the best, we always have fun.
tomorrow i will have to rush home as soon as i wake up to pack for school in a frenzy while we have daylight!

all that to say, my NYC post will have to be delayed for a few more days :(
i really am excited to share my pictures with you all, and as soon as i'm settled into school it will be first on the priority list!

thank you to all of you who follow my little blog, and also to those of you who just happen to stumble here every once in a while!
i appreciate every person that chooses to read my ramblings :)
and thank you for the sweet comments - i love reading and answering them, so please don't hesitate!

PHEW.
ok.
i'm off to spend time with my wonderful grandparents!
i hope all of you are safe, well, and with power!
and if not, i hope you have lovely family members or friends to take you in :)
goodnight loves.

the worst of times.

some days, i cannot handle my life.

on those days, i turn to tea.

i also, usually reluctantly, turn to God.
i think He makes me feel better than the tea does.
it's a wonder i don't turn to Him first.

Psalm 13

"How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts,
and every day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?

Look on me and answer, O Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
my enemy will say, 'I have overcome him,'
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
for he has been good to me."

BAHAHAHAHA

hahaha...haha..i love this girl. LOVE HER. love her.
(disclaimer: she's got a mouth on 'er, this one...it's all in good fun in my opinion, not that i am usually an endorser of swears! ((the fact that i call cuss words "swears" should give you an idea of the kind of person i am, just in case you were worried.)) {not that you are a bad person if you use swears. i just don't.} .....ok. )

(p.s. NYC post coming tomorrow :) )
(p.p.s. i just learned how to fix the width of videos in html...score.)

i got high hopes, baby

g'morning, loves!
i apologize for my absence the past few days - i was adventuring in the always fabulous NYC! i took plenty of pictures, which i will share as soon as i get the camera back from my mama (i have to borrow hers now, since mine took an unfortunate tumble off of a rollercoaster at Hersheypark and shattered...)

for now, enjoy this little video of "Cameo Lover" by Kimbra; hope it brightens your day like it did mine :)

promise i'll be back so so very soon!

ground control to Major Tom...

today is a very Bowie sort of day.
and that's always a good thing.

it also happens to be my youngest brother Cooper's 18th birthday!

cooper is witty, kind, goofy, easy-going, loving, talented, and a whole host of other wonderful things.
he is by far the most level-headed of the Marsh clan, and for that i admire him;
he is patient and calm when the rest of us lose our cool, a welcome voice of reason in the silly craziness that is our family.
i'm so glad i have gotten to know him better over the past few years.
he is an incredible brother, and a loyal friend who always entertains.

i love you Coopy!

sweet rain.

today i...

...woke up to my friend Trevor installing lights in our bathroom (he works for our friend who does home-fixing stuff). i didn't know he was coming, and i think i scared him with my sleepy eyes and bed hair.

...ate veggie straws and string cheese for lunch. not exactly a balanced meal.

...wore (and am still wearing) my most favorite outfit, jean shorts and a white tshirt.

...took my laptop, notebook, and Bible to Starbucks and sat with my favorite drink (tall decaf latte).

...got asked about my Bible by a man sitting next to me, who turned out to be a believer too - love unexpected conversations!

...was inspired by the work of Stephen Wiltshire, a London-based artist who also happens to be an autistic savant with complete photographic memory. people are incredible, aren't they?

...am going to babysit the sweet son of some dear friends, and i can't wait! (i'll try to take pictures to share later.)

...am loving this song:

have a wonderful day, and enjoy this lovely storm if it happens to be in your area too!

thursday.

well good afternoon, friends!
as i've mentioned many times, i have a lot of time on my hands in these last days before i go back to school. as a result, i've had to force myself to be creative with my time, which has actually turned out to be good for my art! it's easy for me to put off doing even things that i enjoy and be lazy instead, but this summer i have forced myself to draw even when i didn't feel like it, and i've definitely benefitted from it.
and in addition to drawing, i've also wasted countless hours playing around with my hair and makeup - silly, yes, but fun!
this is the look i came up with today:

nothin special, but i always feel pretty with a high-waisted skirt (especially this one, it flows and sways perfectly, and floats when i go down the stairs :) ).
and a little red lipstick does wonders for one's confidence, too!

anyway, enough of that silliness.
yesterday i wasn't feeling the greatest (still have a lingering sore throat - yuck!), so i stayed in all day and had a relaxing time on the couch.
i snapped a few pictures to share:

as you can see, i am embarking on the Harry Potter series! i'm a little behind the times, i know, but here's my story. i started reading them when they first came out, and i was very young at the time. i also happened to be one of those kids who was scared of EVERYTHING. so, as you can imagine, harry potter didn't go over too well with me. i made it to the third one and then had to stop - they felt too creepy!
but, i've always been a fan of the stories, and i've seen all the movies, so i figured it was time for me to be a legit fan and actually read the books.
at 21 years old, i feel much more mentally prepared this time...let's hope i don't wimp out ;)
so i am reading the second one now, and i'm about 3/4 of the way through - i read a TON yesterday! i curled up on the couch with my book, some blueberries, and a cup of English Breakfast tea.
it was a lovely day :)
i also got a few drawings done over the past few days, so here they are as well!
(i love when i have lots of things to share):

^this is a tattoo i designed for my great-aunt; Kylor was my great-grandparents last name (her maiden name), and they passed away about a year and a half ago, so she wants to commemorate them with a tattoo. i can't wait to see how it turns out!

^inspired by art deco illustrations from the 20's.

^ some tattoo design ideas of my own...lots of ideas brewing, now i just need the money!

^just a little doodle.

another 20's girl...i'm in love with the whole flapper vibe!

thanks for visiting me today! i appreciate every single person who reads my little blog.
hope your day is wonderful.

looking for color in a shade of grey

good morning, sweet friends!
i apologize for being m.i.a. the past few days, i really have no excuse!
one of these days i WILL get better at this, i promise.

well, it's a cloudy, breezy tuesday here in Pennsylvania, and i'm enjoying every moment that isn't blistering hot like our August typically is! i cannot say enough how glad i am to be home after all my time away this summer. sometimes i catch myself smiling to myself out of nowhere, simply because i am so in love with my hometown. i think it's probably bordering on obsession, if i'm being honest. but you know, i'm alright with that!

do you feel the same way about your hometown/state?
what do you love the most about it?
i'd love to hear from you, wherever you're from!
(even though PA wins. every. time.)

well, enough about my unhealthy affinity for America for now.
instead, why don't i share a few pictures of beautiful makeup looks i've found on Pinterest that have inspired me lately? sound good?
well here you go :)

ah! so clean and fresh, a gorgeous youthful look.
i love the muted colors of her blouse and jacket too! a great contrast to the bright headscarf.

another of my favorites...blonde hair would never suit me, but i do love it so!
i especially love the peachy blush and the twist in the front.

this look is polished and professional, a la Kim Kardashian.
i love the defined eyebrows and nude, shiny lips.

i am in love with this look. her beauty is ethereal, almost other-worldly...gorgeous.
i LOVE red lips, especially this deep vintage red.

i definitely am going to try to modify and recreate these looks in the near future!
which one do you like the best, or which would most fit your everyday style?

hope you all have a wonderful evening!
i'll be back soon, i promise :)

from Meredith, the face of One Sheepish Girl - i love reading her blog, and if you've never paid her a visit you absolutely should!
here's just a few of her sweet crocheted gifts:

3. The Breakfast Club
4. Remember the Titans
5. P.S. I Love You

you're not alone tonight, baby

home...to me there is nothing sweeter.
it's a warm rainy day here in Pennsylvania, and i couldn't be happier to be back in my country, my state, my town, my house...my home.

in other news, i've been drawing a ton lately, and i realized that the whole reason i started this blog was to have a place to share my drawings and illustrations. so i think it's about time to do just that!
for my next few posts, i'll post a picture of my drawing, along with links or pictures of what inspired that particular illustration.
so without further ado, the first of this series:

"a modern guy's girl."

inspired by...

1. "Perth", off of Bon Iver's self-titled album

2. This image of 1960's supermodel Twiggy
(via Google Images)

3. Actress Michelle Williams

all the other kids with the pumped up kicks

hello sweet friends! greetings to you from London - for the last time!
tomorrow morning we leave to go back home to sweet Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
as fortunate as i have been to have the opportunity to travel to London these past few years, i must admit to you all that travel is not something that is dear to my heart. i love to be in places, but the getting there sometimes ruins parts of the trip for me. and at the end of it all, i would always rather be home safe and sound in America (specifically my beloved PA :) ).
anyway, this is not the time to talk about my travel fears; suffice it to say, i'm just so very glad to be going home!

as a parting post, i figured i would bring you the rest of my austria pictures, as well as a few other randoms. k? k :)

i left off when we were on the Sound of Music tour - at this point we arrived at Mondsee, a little town where the church Maria and Mr. Von Trapp got married in (in the movie not in real life).
it was an adorable little town by a lake - so quaint! the buildings were pretty pastel colors, and the church a beautiful bright yellow! we only had about an hour in the town before we had to get back on the bus, but it was fun while it lasted!

the gorgeous church!

it was pretty inside too...

"Please...something something, something...the church."
(yeah....still workin on that German...)

BEAUTIFUL altar area.

and a gorgeous side prayer room, with candles everywhere and a beautiful statue of Mary.

after getting back from the tour, we were all hungry and very excited to go to the Augustiner Brauesteubl for dinner - a brewery run by Augustinian monks back in the day! i had seen it while researching places to go in Salzburg, and several locals told us that we definitely had to go there, so our expectations were high!

water fountain to clean out your mug between beer fillings! the floor was so sticky, COVERED in beer, haha!

they had several stands to choose food from, all very authentic German/Austrian food! me and mom chose stuffed chicken halves and baked potatoes covered in some sort of cream - yums!

and dad and coop had sausages.

all in all the brewery was an ok experience - i didn't get too many pictures because it was a ZOO in there. the building itself was very dirty and loud, and in the outdoor Biergarten (beer garden) where we ate it was also crowded and swarming with bees. the food was pretty good, and i guess we got the experience of a true Austrian beer garden, but i definitely expected it to be better after all the hype!

after that we walked back to our hotel, and after some shop browsing we settled in for our last night in Salzburg. (SO SAD!)

the next morning, we set out for Vienna.
if you want my honest opinion, it wasn't all it's cracked up to be.
to me, it seemed to be just like any other city, but less interesting. haha! sorry to shatter the dreams of any of you who have been dying to go to Vienna, but i just didn't think it was all that great, especially after experiencing the beauty and charm of Salzburg!
but, i did get a few pictures here and there of random things we did. so here goes nothin.

ah, starbucks. blissfully the same in every country :)

a shot of the jankity headphones on the bus tour from hell.
as soon as i sat on the dirty, cheap plastic seat, i knew it would be bad.
yeah...we had to put those ON OUR HEADS.

clearly mom shared the same opinion.

the following is a video that pretty well sums up our tour.
"can't hear anything? don't feel bad; neither can we."

mid-tour, our bus pulled over on the side of the road so that we could get out for a 20 minute break, to use the restroom and "take pictures". our response?
...take pictures of what?....

grody buildings...

jankity tourist trap...

...the fantastic view?

...yeah. well, at least i got to go to the bathroom (so.dirty.).

and another video of our awesome time.

the only cool thing in vienna - a ferris wheel with these little box rooms that people sometimes rent for dinner or drinks! neat, but terrifying.

so anyway, that sucked.
but dinner that night was nice!
a little tiny room with candlelight and a piano player :)
dad's beer - Edelweiss!

and the next morning we had breakfast in a cute little French-inspired cafe.
i had a muffin and a latte!

dad had some sort of quiche...

and mama had a very European style breakfast of ham, cheese, bread with butter and jam, and a hard boiled egg.

after that me and mom went to a reallllly super old church in the middle of town, perhaps the only cool part of Vienna :)

they were having mass up front - all in German, but it sounded nice!

aaand that abruptly ends our European tour.
i guess i got tired of taking pictures of a city i wanted to leave.
(bitter? me? nooo...)
in all honesty, Vienna was fine, i just wish we could have had longer in Salzburg! it was magical. perhaps my favorite place i have ever visited!

and now i must go, because i am BURNING UP IN THIS APARTMENT!
Europe's lack of air conditioning is going to my brain.
tomorrow, back to America i go!
goodnight loves :)
xo
